Setup Self-Service Password Reset

If you forget your passphrase or get locked out, you can get back in yourself without waiting for us — but only if you have registered first.

This takes two minutes and you only do it once. Please do it now rather than when you are locked out, because at that point it is too late.

What to register

You need two ways for Microsoft to confirm it is you:

  • Microsoft Authenticator on your phone
  • Your personal email address

Your personal email matters. If you lose your phone, it is how you get back in.

How to register

  1. Go to mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info.
  2. Sign in with your Council email address and current passphrase.
  3. Select Add sign-in method.
  4. Choose Microsoft Authenticator or Email, and follow the prompts.
  5. Repeat for the second method.

You can also get to this page from any Microsoft 365 app — select your profile picture, then View account, then Security info.

Need the full Authenticator walkthrough? See Set up Microsoft Authenticator.

Check what you have registered

Go back to mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info at any time to see your registered methods, add a new one, or remove one you no longer use.

Worth checking if you have changed phone or personal email address since you first set this up.

Now you can reset your own passphrase

Once registered, you can reset at any time from passwordreset.microsoftonline.com or from the Forgot my password link on any Council sign-in screen.

Full instructions: Reset your password.

If you are locked out and never registered

Call us on (03) 6211 8100 between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday. We will confirm who you are and reset it for you.
