What is Multifactor Authentication?

When you log in to an account, you are verifying who you are. Typically, this means entering your username and password. But if someone guesses or steals your password, they can get into your account, especially if you use the same password elsewhere. That's where Multifactor Authentication (MFA) comes in.

Note: Kingborough Council utilises the Microsoft Authenticator app for Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). Make sure it's set up on your phone.

How does multifactor authentication work?

When you sign in to your Kingborough Council work account for the first time on a new device:

  1. Enter your username and password
  2. You will then receive a prompt or code on your mobile device (using the Microsoft Authenticator app).
  3. Approve or enter the code to finish signing in

If someone else tries to access your account without your phone, they won't get in—even if they know your password.
