Approved Password Managers
1Password is the only approved place to store Kingborough Council passwords.
A password manager keeps your passwords in an encrypted vault so you only have to remember one passphrase. It also generates strong, unique passwords for every system, which is the single most effective thing you can do to protect your accounts.

What not to use for Council passwords

Personal passwords
Your own personal passwords are your own business, and you are welcome to keep them in 1Password — your Council membership includes a free 1Password Families account.
If you prefer a different tool for personal use, that is fine. The rule applies to Council passwords only.
Why one tool
Using a single managed tool means:
- Passwords are encrypted and stored consistently
- Credentials can be shared with a team without being sent in plain text
- Access can be handed over when someone changes role or leaves, instead of being lost with them
- We can see which critical systems have shared credentials, and fix the ones that should not
That last point is the one that matters most. When a colleague leaves and the only copy of a system password left with them, the recovery is slow, expensive and sometimes impossible.
