Setup 1Password

1Password is Kingborough Council’s central password management system. It provides a secure way to store, manage, and share passwords and other sensitive information.

It helps you keep everything secure in one place, reduces the need to remember multiple passwords, and makes it safer to share access where needed.

You will also receive access to a free 1Password Families membership. Keep your whole family safe online and share logins, passwords, credit cards, and more.

Who should use it

1Password is recommended for:

• Staff or teams that share credentials to Kingborough Council systems or services
• Anyone wanting a simpler and more secure way to manage passwords

What you'll need before starting

• Email Help@kingborough.tas.gov.au to request access, with a short reason for your request
• We'll review it and, if approved, send you an invite along with a quick start guide

Step 1: Access your invitation

1. Check your email for an invitation from 1Password and our Setup 1Password guide
2. Select Activate your account (or similar prompt within the invitation email)
3. Follow the prompts to login using your Kingborough email address and network password (single sign on)

Step 2: Install 1Password Browser Extension

1. Open Company Portal on your device
2. Install the 1Password app
3. The 1Password browser extension will install automatically for login and autofill

You can also install 1Password on your mobile device if needed.

Step 3: Start using 1Password

Bookmark the 1Password link for easy access: kingboroughcouncil.1password.com

You can now:

• Save your passwords when logging into websites
• Generate strong passwords
• Store secure notes (PINs, keys, etc.)
• Access shared vaults if assigned

Best practice

• Use 1Password to generate and store unique passwords
• Don't reuse passwords across systems
• Never share passwords via email or Teams
• Use shared vaults instead of sending credentials directly

Migrate your data

1Password supports importing your existing passwords from other tools and browsers, making it easy to move across without starting from scratch. Most imports are straightforward and can be completed in a few steps using the 1Password app or browser extension. If you have a large or shared set of passwords, or you’re unsure how to export from your current tool, the Digital Experience team can help guide you through the process.
