Mapinfo - Adding Distances to Tabfile Lines

This is a guide on how to determine the distance of lines in a Mapinfo tabfile (for example after saving a cosmetic layer)

This guide assumes that you have a tab that is editable (e.g in your folders or on the S drive) that has lines in it and that you have a current version of Mapinfo

The first step is to go Table > Table > Modify Structure

This will bring up a window that allows you to modify list of columns in the tab file

If this causes the workspace to glitch and remove the tab, you will need to close the tab before dragging it back in

Now, under Table, click Update Column

Now select the Length column as the column to update

For the Value, you can either type the below exactly, or use the Assist button to assist in putting it beneath

The "m" refers to metres, you can change this to "km" if you want kilometres instead

The length of the lines will now appear in the table
