Spectrum - Editing Polygon Annotations
This guide shows you how to draw, edit, and export polygon shapes (and lines) in Spectrum Spatial. These can be used to mark areas like dog zones, walking paths, or areas of interest, and then shared with others.
✏️ Create a Polygon
Step 1: Open the Annotations Panel
- Click the Annotations panel
- Choose the Polygon tool
Step 2: Draw Your Area
- Click on the map to mark out your shape
- Keep clicking to form the outline
- Double-click to finish the shape
💡 Example: You might outline a dog zone or fenced area for review.
🛠️ Edit Your Polygon
✋ Move Points
- Find your polygon in the annotations folder
- Click Edit
- Hover over an edge until a purple dot appears
- Click and drag the dot to adjust the shape
➕ Add a New Point
- Click along the edge where you want a new point
- Drag the new point to reshape the area
❌ Delete a Point
- Double-click any purple point to remove it
Done? Click Exit to finish editing.
➕ Draw a Track (Line)
You can also draw lines (called “tracks”) for things like walking paths or boundaries.
Step 1: Select the Line tool
Step 2: Click to draw the path
Step 3: Edit it just like a polygon
- Move, add, or delete points
- Change the line colour for visibility if needed
- Click Exit when you're done
📁 Export Your Annotations (as KML)
- Step 1: Finalise your shapes or tracks
- Step 2: Click the three dots (•••) in the Annotations menu
- Step 3: Choose Export Selected as KML
- A file will download to your computer
To share it:
- Others can click Add Layer (plus icon)
- Then select Add Files to Map Temporarily
- They’ll now see your annotations on their map
💡 Helpful Tips
- Use Cases: Mark areas of interest, suggest updates, or share site plans with colleagues
- Can’t edit or export? Make sure you have the right permissions and follow the steps closely
