Connecting to Systems from Home (VPN NEW)
This guide explains how to connect securely to Council systems from home using FortiClient VPN. This is a secure connection that lets you safely access Council systes when you are not in the office.
When you work from home or another location, your computer is outside the Council network. The VPN creates a protected link back to Council, making it behave as if your device is physically in the office and connected to the internal network.
VPN is required for the following services:
- Info Council
- Network drives (G: drive, H: drive, P: drive, S: drive)
- Pathway
- Finance system
What you need before you start
Before connecting, make sure you have your Council-issed laptop and an active internet connection at home.
Step 1: Connect to your Home Wi-Fi
Before using VPN, you must be connected to the internet.
- Click the Wi-Fi icon in the bottom right of your screen
- Select your home Wi-Fi network
- Enter your Wi-Fi password if prompted
- Confirm you are connected before continuing
If you are not connected to Wi-Fi, VPN will not work.
Step 2: Open FortiClient
- Sign into your laptop using your password or pin.
- Right-mouse click the FortiClient icon within the taskbar (blue shield icon) and select Connect to "staffvpn.kingborough.tas.gov.au"

Once connected, you will be able to access Kingborough Council systems and resources (e.g. network drives, Pathway, Finance).
